About the Artist

David Howell is a polymath and an artist.

He is also a professor in the department of Radiation Oncology in the University of Michigan's Medical School, and the Medical Director of the Morey Cancer Center in Mount Pleasant.

Dr. Howell, a Michigan native, received his Bachelors of Science in Zoology with high distinction and Medical Doctorate from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He is board certified in Radiation Oncology by the American Board of Radiology, and in Hospice and Palliative Medicine by the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Dr. Howell has been practicing medicine for over 27 years.

Oh, and Dr. Howell has had an extensive experience in the study of art and music, having studied art and art appreciation at museums through the US and Europe.

He has been practicing art for over 50 years.

Inspired by the Color Field and Abstract Expressionist artists of the 20th century, inspired by life in Michigan, Howell created Michigan Triptych©.
